This informative, comprehensive handbook is perfect for any librarian, whether new to graphic novels and manga or already familiar with the format. The first chapter explains how to use the book, stating that it was purposely written for both browsers ("Kristin-types") as well as chronological readers ("Merideths"). The chapter then goes on to give a brief history of graphic novels and manga for those interested in gaining a better understanding of their evolution. Other topics featured include the literacy benefits of graphic novels, how to create and maintain a collection and selection policy, and how to develop programming with graphic novels as the focus. The last chapter lists recommended books by genre (action/adventure, drama, mystery, romance, etc.); this is an especially useful resource for those looking to add this format to their collections. Short paragraphs at the start of each chapter briefly summarize its content, which allows for ease of browsing. It is apparent that the authors have both a passion for and a knowledge of thesubject matter. This all-inclusive guide will enable librarians to better serve teens through a more diverse collection.—Kimberly Castle, Medina County District Library, OH
