PreS-Gr 1—Dicmas detours from her "Wild! Concepts" board book series and gathers nine animals to assist their sleepwalking friend, Louis the lemur. Although he disrupts their evening as he clomps and snores through their apartments, the forgiving critters together create buffers when Louis needs to deflect dangers like a clothesline and a trafficked lane. When the lemur wakes to share dreams that reflect his somnambulant travels, he realizes the trouble he's caused. Since "they loved Louis, even with all his snoozing and snuffling," they cheer him with a special present—a treadmill and a balloon to hold him aloft as he safely "wanders" through the night. Pastel cartoons give each animal a clear personality and Dicmas balances their wide-eyed faces of fright with fond glances once everyone's out of peril.
VERDICT The large comedic scenes will work well in storytimes and as one-on-one bedtime reads.
