At first Kibby is confused and sad; there are many new and strange things that are not found in Kansas. However, after spending some time learning more about their new home, Kibby comes to love all the special things that she can only experience there. Cassell has created a great story that, although based on her own dogs, will resonate for children. In the simplest of language, the narrative takes time to explore all the emotions of moving, from a dog’s perspective. Koop’s illustrations depict Kibby’s emotions, showing readers exactly what is happening. They also help readers identify which state they are in, through the Kansas golden yellow and the Georgia peach colors used.
VERDICT A fun tale of exploration and discovery, with two adorable dogs and a lingering message of reassurance for children.
