PreS-K—Katie is excited to be spending the day with Grandma, who always lets her do something that's fun. Today they are making pancakes for Grandpa. The task involves a trip to the grocery store for ingredients and measuring and mixing batter. Katie gets the first pancake and, after everyone has eaten, they all clean up. Then she strings beads for a necklace, and at night her grandmother reads to her. Text blocks are set in brightly colored boxes opposite bold paintings with thick black lines. The pages are durably coated and allow for independent turning. The text is a bit long for new readers but will be a good reach for youngsters' listening skills. This story is just right for children who are beginning to enjoy their relationship with their grandparents. They will relate to the simple activities the family engages in and the love and patience that Katie's grandparents display toward her.—
