PreS-Gr 3—Five-year-old Kate and her long-eared purple stuffed bunny, Mim-Mim, are inseparable. When Kate's parents leave the room to accomplish simple tasks, Kate and Mim-Mim "twirl away to Mimiloo," a fantastical land where Kate is just Kate but Mim-Mim is six feet tall. In Mimiloo, they have adventures with imaginary friends Lily, Gobble, Tack, and Boomer and problem-solve to help a variety of amiable creatures—and usually they find a solution to an issue they're facing in the real world. For example, when a box of kittens escape and run through Kate's house, her parents chase after them. When Kate transports to Mimiloo, she discovers that a gaggle of mitty kats (mitten-shaped kitten creatures) are causing similar mayhem. In corralling them, Kate devises a more clever and resourceful answer to the real-world runaway kitten problem. The emphasis on kid empowerment and imagination makes the six fast-paced episodes appealing. However, some of the high-pitched, baby-talking voices will turn off adults.
VERDICT Overall, these computer-animated episodes are gentle and fun. A solid buy for libraries with large children's DVD collections.
