The book opens with two characters, a young person with short hair and an older person with a mustache, in a field of bright flowers with the text saying: “I like to wear my pearls just like my daddy.” The text and illustrations depict family interactions between a child and another member of their family (babas, niblings, zizis, etc.) This book is full of appreciation and love that is reminiscent of Todd Parr’s The Family Book but with an even more expansive representation of family, genders, and roles.
VERDICT Celebrating families who are “wonderfully different” with gusto, this title will be appreciated by a wide spectrum of readers and their families seeking to live their lives to the fullest expression of their true selves.
