The text rhymes in both English and Spanish, with the words flowing from page to page. The detailed illustrations depict a family going about their usual routine, with the text pointing to how water is not only present but essential to the situation (taking a bath, cooking, etc.). About halfway through, the characters are taken on a journey through nature to experience water in the form of rain, snowflakes, creeks, a stream, and more. Alvarenga and Goley's artwork supports the material presented, and readers will enjoy looking for small background details—ants crawling on a tree stump, a cat lapping water, and a dragonfly resting on a blade of grass.
