Gr 5–7—Sendler was a "righteous Gentile" who saved the lives of many Jews in Poland during the Holocaust. This biography interweaves her life story with information about World War II. Sidebars focus on various aspects of the war. Despite Sendler's dramatic life, the text is emotionless and dry. Chronology is not strictly followed, and facts about the war are thrown at readers in a scattershot way. Children without background knowledge of the era will find the book confusing, and they never get a real sense of Sendler as a person.
