PreS-K—Arthur is a young mouse who loves to wear his dragon costume and play with his mother. The day comes, though, when she needs to go out, and he must spend the day with his grandmother. At first Arthur resists, but eventually his mother gets him settled in, and his grandmother takes over coddling and distracting him with painting and music and even a treasure trove to keep him from being grumpy. Each time the doorbell rings, though, the youngster is disappointed to find that it is not his mother. Just as he has found the activity that is the most distracting, playing knights and dragons in the garden, she returns and greets him with a big hug. Edgson's soft acrylic illustrations are adorable, and each member of the mouse family is more wide-eyed and snuggly than the last.—Jennifer Miskec, Longwood University, Farmville, VA
