PreS-Gr 1—Following the format of his earlier titles, Gibbs introduces seven animals via a brief text and visual clues. Even young children will be successful in guessing; the only tricky pet is "I spy…something with bumpy skin. I like to snap up insects. I'm a chameleon." Cat and dog are saved for the end after turtle and bunny. The die-cut pages may add some challenge in terms of library circulation, but most page turners should be able to read the book without tearing them. A super addition to a fun series.—Laura Stanfield, Campbell County Public Library, Ft. Thomas, KY
To identify each of seven animals, readers get two clues ("something with silky feathers"; "I like to peck seeds") and two visual hints, one via a die-cut spy hole; turning the page reveals the answer ("I'm a CANARY"). Like this series' other titles, this is preschooler manna. Curiously, the easier-to-ID animals back-load the book (a dog is the big finale).
