I Dream of an Elephant

32p. 978-0-78921-058-6.
COPY ISBN
PreS This is a beautifully conceived book. Each spread focuses on one color, features an elephant, and has a rhyme that readers get to finish: "Jumping and playing the whole morning through!/I dream of an elephant whose color is]." The usual red, green, and yellow are included, but so are gray, pink, black, white, and orange: "Oh no! He is ORANGEhow will I rhyme?/I'll dream of this elephant some other time." The stylized illustrations are a treat for the eyes, and the words on each page are in a different coordinating hue. Although there are many books on colors, this one should find a place in most collections."Judith Constantinides, formerly at East Baton Rouge Parish Main Library, LA" Copyright 2010 Media Source Inc.
Rubinger's rhyme scheme and illustrations challenge readers to guess an elephant's color. "I dream of an elephant whose color is..." yields, with a page turn, an image of a green, guitar-playing elephant with the text, "The animals all love this rockin' routine!" The story is a good choice for read-aloud time; toddlers will love calling out the answers.
