Gr 7 Up—Hyrule Warriors takes players' favorite characters from the "Legend of Zelda" series and transports them to the hack-and-slash gameplay environment made popular by the "Dynasty Warriors" series. Play as Link, Zelda, newcomer Lana, and other favorites as you battle to save Hyrule from new temptress Cia's quest for power. Players eventually face off against Ganondorf, but let's not forget about Zant and Ghirahim who are equally present antagonists. Through the initial play through, players are able to see all sides of the story and play as both light and dark characters. Unlike other installments, players are kept on the edge of their seats through the story to see what side they will play in the final round. Additional modes for online play are available through Adventure Mode, in which players can unlock bonus playable characters and relive the classic Legend of Zelda map using items collected from missions. Fans will enjoy gathering the many collectibles such as Gold Skulltulas, pieces of hearts and materials to create unique weapons and badges in the Smithy or potions in the Apothecary.
VERDICT The two-player maximum makes this a difficult choice for programming, but the franchise's strong fanbase makes it a first purchase for circulating collections.
