PreS-Gr 2–Xu has crafted a cute story bound to make any child laugh and practice making the sounds contained in the pages of this book. Piggy has fallen asleep, and all his animal friends try a variety of ways to make noise to wake Piggy up. A plethora of animals appear with funny attempts at making a noise, like a puppy ringing a bell, bunnies hitting a gong, and hedgehogs playing horns. They even band together to make their sounds all at once, with no luck. Luckily, the ladybug arrives and knows just what to do! Story hours will be loud; this is a simple read, but when the kids try to act out the sounds themselves, the joy of this story will double. The hilarious illustrations will surely appeal to the littlest ones.
VERDICT Any library with a robust storytime program will need this book to get kids moving and laughing. It’s an effective story for getting everyone acting out the parts, sure to become a favorite tale that will never go out of style.
