Gr 3–7—These are true accounts of animal antics, including one about horses that engineered the escape of some quarter horses that shared their stable. Milkshake the cow liked one of the employees on the farm where she worked so much, the cow followed the woman everywhere, even to the restroom. In the final tale, a family of goats aren't content to frolic in their pen and end up doing damage to the roof and hood of the owner's car. Johnny Heller keeps the tone light while narrating these simple anecdotes. Most enjoyable is when he does sound effects. Quick facts about the animals or breeds are offered at the end of each chapter.
VERDICT A swift, entertaining listen for youngsters interested in animals or for students studying mammals. ["Perfect for animal-obsessed new readers": SLJ 1/14 review of the National Geographic book.]—C.A. Fehmel, St. Louis County Library
