The book opens with a double-page map of the world that shows 13 animals and asks readers, "Can you find the creatures hiding in a different place from their homes?" The playful artwork, which combines colorful shapes and textures on full-bleed spreads, challenges viewers to find the out-of-place visitors. Whether it be an Emperor penguin among the zebras of the savanna or a long-tailed parakeet among some koalas in a thicket of gum trees, each visiting animal is far from home. The text is succinct and poses questions.
VERDICT A good first introduction for young children to the world's animals and where they live.
