Heroes of the Pirate Ship

Gr 2-5–Austin and Alanna find a seemingly average face-painting kit while they are sifting through Aunty Kessie’s art supplies. The paintbrush flies up out of the box and magically writes on the lid, “Pirate ship or robot world, which one will you choose? In each a race to find the prize, will you win or lose?” The twins are tasked to find a treasure chest and they immediately embark on an adventure aboard a pirate ship. The crew of the New Leaf pirate ship informs them that they no longer steal treasure—they have a treasure map and they help return the treasure to its rightful owners! Austin and Alanna agree to help, until a pair of suspicious pirates come aboard and quietly discuss stealing the map. Meanwhile, Austin discovers that his watch painted on by the magic brush has a timer and if they don’t finish their quest in time, they will be stuck as pirates! The twins work together to save the New Leaf’s map, find the treasure chest, and get back to their aunt before dinner. The illustrations are expressive and colorful, bringing the pirate ship to life, and each chapter has a color-coded header and footer. Children will delight in this unique pirate story that is a great fit for early readers.
