They are getting ready for the holiday by baking cookies, caroling, and spending time with their family. The sound effects and narration make the story come alive. For example, in one segment listeners hear wood crackling in the fireplace—a sound inspired by Sucie Stevenson's illustration but not mentioned in the text.
