K-Gr 6—This short program is packed with information and suggestions about how to deal with a difficult issue that impacts all students: head lice. No one is immune. These creatures have even been found on ancient Egyptian mummies. The DVD clearly explains how head lice, a common communicable problem, are spread. Whether through sharing combs, hats, headbands, or sports helmets, these situations are to be avoided. Microscopic enlargements of the offending lice are helpful to understand how eggs, or nits, are glued by the louse to each hair strand, and must be dealt with immediately. The production's tone is non-judgmental and encourages children to report symptoms of itchiness to teachers, parents, or the school nurse without delay. Shampooing, combing, and house cleaning are all dramatized to show exactly how to rid oneself of this public health nuisance. Oddly shaking graphics and children chanting, "Oh, no, head lice!" are the only disturbing elements of this otherwise informative and well-produced program. A useful resource for all classroom teachers and health professionals.—
