Gr 2–5-Harriet is a monster who loves all the normal monster kid things, like monsterade and boo-berry muffins, but she has anxiety about speaking in front of her class. When a science presentation is due in a few days, Harriet's stomach is in knots all the time and she can't eat. Thanks to her friends and her grandma, Harriet learns some techniques to cope with her stress, such as a "furmometer" and ST4 (Stop: Take Time To Think)—a calming mechanism developed by the author, who is also a developmental and behavioral pediatrician. The creators mix compelling, graphic novel-style storytelling with real-life coping techniques.
VERDICT A strong option for libraries looking for hybrid-style chapter books and titles about anxiety for the elementary set.-Amanda C. Buschmann, Carroll Elementary School, Houston
