This lovely juxtaposition of the familiar and the undiscovered is brought to life in Melvin's intricate illustrations. The rooms are full of knickknacks and curios to discover, from a china cow milk pitcher to a cabinet of dancing figurines. Die-cut holes allow readers to peek through doorways, and a vertical gatefold leads to the attic, where more vintage treasures await. The child finds Grandma outside in the garden, and is greeted with a big hug and a tea party celebration.
VERDICT Children will pore over the details in this cozy, nostalgic glimpse into the everyday.
