K-Gr 2—Dion Leonard recounts how he met his four-legged friend, Gobi. While Leonard was on the second day of a 155-mile race in the Chinese desert, Gobi chased after a group of runners. She then chose to run alongside Leonard for the remainder of the race. They faced many obstacles along the way: bad weather, a shortage of food, and long, tiring days. But through it all, their friendship endured and they managed to cross the finish line together. Leonard became Gobi's forever friend, and the canine now makes her new home in Edinburgh, Scotland, leaving her life as a stray dog behind. Narrator Gildart Jackson does an excellent job with the pace of the story; his voice is clear and fitting. The computer animation of Leonard's picture book is enhanced by the tones of the desert.
VERDICT Young audiences will likely want to view this DVD over and over again.
