Gr 8 Up–With the advent of the #MeToo movement, librarians will be looking to stock their shelves with books that empower girls to be strong women and make smart choices. Wulff attempts to embolden girls to find strength in their identities and to speak up and stand up for themselves. The book contains quotes, short essays, illustrations, and journal-like exercises. The vibrant design, packed with bold graphics, will catch the eyes of browsers. The format will be challenging for libraries, as they generally don’t purchase diary-type books, but the exercises are minimal, so libraries might overlook this issue. The tone of the book is unequivocally motivational and inspirational. Wulff’s writing embodies a brand of female empowerment that some readers may feel relies too much on a “traditional,” commercialized version of femininity: glitter, sparkles, and a bright pink palette.
