K-Gr 2—Fluffy little monsters bedecked in medieval armor and weaponry make up a germ army living in a toilet bowl. They see their chance to attack when a little boy, who is a giant in their eyes, neglects to wash his hands after using the bathroom. It is up to Sam, a runt of a germ unwilling to fight, to stop the war and prevent the boy from getting sick (falling in love with a cute antibody ally named Ella helps). Fold-out battle scenes of the army charging from a toothbrush and into the cavern of the boy's mouth are equal to the story's tongue-in-cheek epic tone. Lengthy text make this story better for one-on-one reading than a storytime, if one does not mind the toilet setting and humor.—Joanna K. Fabicon, Los Angeles Public Library
