Gr 7 Up–The Skibidi Toilet universe is a shared fictional world centered around a war between two factions: the Alliance (humans with camera, speaker, or TV heads) and the Skibidi Toilets (singing, animated toilets with human heads). The core conflict in this universe (which originated in YouTube videos by the animator Alexey Gerasimov) is a global war on a destroyed Earth, with the Skibidi Toilets representing a rapidly spreading, antagonistic force. Ely’s (The Lost Reliquary) book is the first in an original novel series set in the Skibidi Toilet universe. With frenetic energy, the hero Redd goes from brand-new recruit who has never been in battle to a position of trust in his Alliance resistance group, before he is taken over by a parasitic toilet that forces him to fight against his friends and the Alliance as a whole. After fighting off the parasitic toilet inhabiting his mind, Redd is able to infiltrate the headquarters of the Skibidi Toilet leader and broadcast the Skibidi Toilet plan to take over the Alliance using parasites. The novel’s swift pace might make it hard for newcomers to the Skibidi Toilet universe to understand what is happening and why, particularly in the first few chapters, but Ely skillfully weaves the plot while developing Redd and Zero into characters that readers will care about. Character race and ethnicity are not mentioned.
VERDICT For fans of the Skibidi Toilet universe and books like Scott Cawthon’s Five Nights at Freddy’s.
