His friends try to help, and Foxtrot attempts different hobbies, such as rock climbing, drag racing, and even acting. Nothing he tries makes him as happy as dancing, and he's convinced he'll live a life of sadness, when he notices an old picture of him and his dance teacher. A happy ending gives this picture book the right tone for audiences who might be doubting their own passions in life. This festive picture book is filled with great vocabulary that blends into the text seamlessly. The vivid pen and ink illustrations provide the right amount of movement and lightness to Foxtrot and elevate the text even further.
VERDICT Pair with Karma Wilson's Hilda Must Be Dancing (S. & S., 2004) or Giles Andreae's Giraffes Can't Dance (Orchard, 2001) for a great dance-themed storytime. A first purchase.

Fox Foxtrot loves dancing, but not everyone sees the beauty in his mayhem-causing moves. Reluctantly, he quits to try other hobbies, but nothing lives up to it. Then a brilliant idea strikes him: he takes over the local dance school, and "soon, everyone learned to LOVE dancing." Humor and even pacing carry readers through the story of perseverance; nimble illustrations capture all the boogieing.
