PreS-Gr 3—Zach Ladin and Rob Young hit all the right notes with their debut album. Created to teach children about food, nutrition, and eating healthy, the 11 songs contain clever, information-filled lyrics backed by a variety of acoustic instruments. While the emphasis on healthy lifestyles could be didactic in others' hands, this pair carefully balances the message with fun and entertainment. Whether they are singing about being a locavore (shopping locally), the importance of eating lunch, or growing a garden, the Delaware duo known as Nature Jams make listeners want to learn and do more (and in the case of "Avocado," maybe even make some guacamole). Additional tracks include subjects such as having a best friend who is a vegan, how great it feels to smile, and the fun of making mud pies.
VERDICT This album would equally at home in a classroom setting or for family listening.
