PreS-Gr 1—Felicity, a gray bunny with tall ears, craves adventure and journeys skyward one day in the basket of a bright red hot-air balloon. Cordelia, a brown bunny with folded ears, prefers to stay home, sweep the floor, decorate the walls, bake pies...and worry about Felicity, who really should have packed an extra blanket and another slice of pie. Felicity has some unexpected setbacks but her cheerful ingenuity, along with "a whiff of something yummy," gets her safely back home to her waiting friend. Jahn-Clough's illustrations are, as ever, childlike, winsome, and boldly colored. Her story, reminiscent of Marjorie Weinman Sharmat's Mitchell Is Moving (S & S, 1978), reinforces the importance and interdependence of distinct personalities as well as the beauty of real friendship.—Susan Weitz, formerly at Spencer-Van Etten School District, Spencer, NY
Homebunny Cordelia would rather stay on terra firma than join her bunny BFF Felicity on a hot-air balloon ride. While Cordelia worries, Felicity gets more of a thrill than she bargained for. She finally makes it home for pie...and is soon planning her next adveture. The childlike charm of Jahn-Clough's unfussy story and cozy paintings is authentic and satisfying.
