Gr 6 Up—During the 10 years Doyle lived in Egypt as a teacher and wife of a foreign service employee, she photographed numerous ordinary Egyptian men, women, and children in Cairo and throughout the country, resulting in this compilation of beautiful, color images, accompanied by explanatory text. Doyle's love and respect for the people she is recording is evident from her sensitive and often poignant pictures and descriptions of her subjects, their lives, and their work. This book's lack of an index limits its usefulness for school assignments, and it seems primarily aimed at adult readers. However, this collection gives readers insight into everyday life in contemporary Egypt in a way that other, more conventional titles do not, making it a potentially good addition for sociology or world cultures classes.—Kathleen E.
