Ellen Poe: The Forgotten Lore

Gr 7 Up–There is a rumor in Ellen’s family that they are descendants of Edgar Allan Poe. Ellen never thought much of the rumor until she moves back into the family home with her aunt and starts to see “Eddy’s” ghost and to have horrific nightmares. She finds an old notebook that may be Eddy’s diary, with clues to what her nightmares mean. When she meets the new boy at school, who just happened to be dead in her nightmare, they team up on a spooktastic scavenger hunt of increasingly difficult clues. Ellen starts to think that maybe she is related to Eddy after all. This is the first book in a series that will be very popular. It has an engaging story, and is fast-paced and very well-written. A satisfying ending has just enough tease to make readers want the next installment when it’s available. Characters cue white.
