K-Gr 2—One night, when all the lights slowly go out, only one light illuminates the city. A little boy sees the beauty of the moon in the dark and attempts to win her love. He brings her a rose, travels to the deepest parts of the ocean in search of an exquisite pearl, and fights a dragon and collects its diamond eye, but the moon does not need any of these gifts. The boy learns that many others have tried and failed to win the love of the moon. Nevertheless, he does not give up. The boy decides to give the moon something she has never had before, and, finally, he wins her love. His gift will truly surprise young readers. Children will appreciate the breathtaking and luminous illustrations, which, together with the poetic text, make this adaptation of The Boy Who Loved the Moon a treasure. Small details, such as a boat and an airplane seemingly made of paper with text, will delight children and leave them searching through the pages long after the story is over.
VERDICT Highly recommended for all Spanish children's collections.
