PreS-Gr 1—Dylan, a bright colored striped dog, wakes up one sunny morning and knows it will be a good day to make all of his friends feel better. He's ready with his handy doctor bag that has everything he needs. Inside are bandages, a stethoscope, and one smelly sock. A smelly sock? Dylan's more than ready when he hears the cries of his friends. One has contracted the dreaded Head-Shoulders-Knees-and-Toes-Itis. Another has the horrible Floppy-Wobble Fever! Doctor Dylan is equipped to handle all types of emergencies. He wraps them in bandages, administers pink medicine, and provides lots of love. He doesn't waste time as he rushes from patient to patient to make them feel better. He caters to their every need at his "hospital." He brings them snacks, sings songs, and reads them stories. Unfortunately, all of this hard work makes Dylan feel very tired and in need of some attention himself. But who will take care of him? This is a great book for young listeners. The characters are cute and animated. The pages are bursting with color. Dylan has a small friend, Dotty Bug, who appears on pages and encourages children to take part in the story. This book is perfect as a read-aloud for a group. It's short but engaging. Children will have fun helping to make the siren sound as Dylan races to help his patients. Dylan's adventure is a good inspiration for readers to use their imagination and have fun with their friends.
VERDICT This book is a welcome addition to a library or preschool collection.
