PreS-Gr 2—Utilizing the same style, tone, format, central character, and several of the same curious creatures from Don't Blink., Booth turns his attention from an epic staring contest to a secret with this latest. The story begins with a young girl asking readers, "How did you find this book? Don't you know this book is a secret book?" With each turn of the page more and more animals join in to speculate about just who spilled the beans. The culprit is eventually revealed and, oh boy, is he sorry. The young girl comforts the offender and admits that she has told secrets to her family and friends and the other animals reveal that they have as well. The digital artwork is reminiscent of early Pixar. And while not as fun and fresh as Don't Blink!, it still has the potential to spark conversations about keeping secrets and to inspire reading.
VERDICT A solid addition, especially for fans of Don't Blink.
