PreS-Gr 3—Award-winning Illinois native Dave Rudolf engages his audience with 11 original serious and goofy songs in country, zydeco, Latin, rock, and blues musical styles. Several of the numbers are in a minor key. His gravelly, deep voice is accompanied by excellent performances on guitars, bass, fiddle, keyboards, drums, and percussion. His 11th album for children features such songs as "Calico Katey," the adventures of a hitchhiking cat. His alphabet soup forms its own words in "Talking Alphabet Soup." In "The Shadow," he wonders where his shadow goes in the dark. And everyone needs a "Superhero" to save them from bullies. Momma sees all, hears all, and knows all in "Momma Knows." Rudolf affirms the sort of rough-and-tumble play that young males prefer in "Boys." Among the other numbers are "Don't Play with Your Food," "Who's Who at the Zoo," "Wild Bill Hiccup," "Turkey Trot," and "Get Dressed." A lively, frolicking album, sure to please children and parents.—
