RedReviewStarK-Gr 3—Readers will fall in love with adorable Dog as he looks for some perfect footwear after reading "Puss in Boots." At the store he's fitted with four boots exactly like the ones in the book, but he soon finds out they get too muddy while digging for his bone. He tries yellow rubber boots, but sinks while swimming in the pond. Flippers are fabulous for swimming, but a misery when trying to scratch an itch on his back. After he tries out a few more options, the shopkeeper points out that he already has exactly what he needs—paws. Dog is thrilled with this discovery—until he goes home and reads a book about a girl with a red-hooded cloak. Text with varying font sizes cleverly provides emphasis, and lively illustrations done in bright acrylics are in perfect sync and at times pop off the page. Dog's facial expressions, wagging tail, and humorous antics steal the show, but it's his smile that will immediately capture readers' hearts. Angaramo extends the fun onto the endpapers with more entertaining illustrations of Dog. This tale begs for multiple readings.—Anne Beier, Clifton Public Library, NJ
