Gr 7 Up—Young ethnically diverse fashion designers provide their views of success, priorities, work ethic, and passion for their field in the highly competitive world of fashion. Each designer creates original attire, while some also hold a conventional 9-to-5 job. These individuals speak frankly about the hard work and inspiration needed to make it. Burgeoning fashion designers must have a personal vision to inspire and carry forward, a strong work ethic, business savvy, a friendly attitude, and a uniquely creative look. The creative process must be the greatest reward to overcome disappointments and pitfalls, which are sure to interrupt a path to success. While the designers are interesting and lively, there is little practical advice for would-be designers who wish to get started. There is no information about edcational preparations, financial realities, connecting with fabric or notions sources, drawing skills, apprenticing in the industry, and business training. Instead, viewers are urged to keep their passion for original design ahead of the other considerations, and to persist in making their designs visible in the industry (but how?). Lacking practical suggestions, this is not a strong selection for vocational collections.—Robin Levin, Ft. Washakie School Library, WY
