K-Gr 3—Overflowing with fascinating detail about dinosaurs and the Mesozoic era, this new addition to this series will entertain as well as inform. Playful, cartoon illustrations complement the writing, although there are some text-heavy pages. The information flows well; for instance, one spread depicts whimsical little animals digging for fossils, followed by pages of paneled illustrations explaining the process of how fossils are created. The use of comparisons and contrasts will help kids easily absorb material. The back matter contains a page of "More Fun Facts," which will encourage children to discover additional knowledge. The book lacks a glossary and index, and a definition of the term
theropod is incomplete. However, these slight flaws won't detract from kids' overall enjoyment.
VERDICT A delightful addition to science collections.
