PreS-Gr 3—Dinosaur Train is an adorable animated television show that combines two things that most kids love—dinosaurs and trains. The Pteranodon family travels on the Dinosaur Train to visit other dinosaur families and learn about them. This volume's strong baby theme explores cool facts about dinosaur eggs and satisfies the characters' curiosity about babies and how dinosaurs are born. Scientific facts, new vocabulary words, and information about dinosaurs are included. The episode focuses on strong family values and covers topics such as a new baby in the family, parents' anniversary, growing up, playing safely, and being together. Kids will easily relate to the loveable, curious characters who explore their world to learn and solve problems. Though sometimes saccharine-sweet, the young dinosaurs—Buddy, Don, Shiny, and Tiny—are cute and model excellent manners and behavior. Buddy, a T. rex, was adopted by the Pteranodon family, and there are often discussions about what it means to be adopted. The bright computer animation is well done and the characters' voices are expressive. Bonus features include cool informational segments from Dr. Scott the paleontologist, an interactive computer game, printable coloring pages, a Dino Reference Guide, and handy information for parents. The educational tidbits, engaging stories, and wonderful characters make this a great purchase.—Jenny Ventling, Dayton Metro Library, OH
