PreS-Gr 2—David is a friendly, wise, and clever gnome doctor. He lives under a tree with his beloved wife, Lisa, and travels the forest with his faithful companion, Swift. When there's trouble, whether it's a hurt animal, gnomes pulling tricks, or a child stuck in the river, David is close at hand and ready to help. The animation looks somewhat low-tech, but has good contrast and use of bright colors. The characters are a bit underdeveloped, but endearing. The story plots are simple and capture viewers' interest. Character voices are easy to distinguish and understand. The values David teaches children about the environment, safety, and listening to their elders are important, but sometimes come across a bit too didactic. However, young children probably will not be put off. A good choice for most library collections serving young children.—
