PreS-Gr 2—With instructions for more than 50 projects, this collection includes a good variety of basic crafts, from paper-plate masks to wearable art like T-shirts and bandanas. Clear, easy-to-follow directions are accompanied by bright and inviting color photos. Each project includes a recommended age range, the time needed to complete it, and the materials required, which are commonly available. Variations for most ideas are also included. Projects are arranged by assorted holidays and celebrations, such as birthdays, Easter, and Halloween, but some seem like odd choices for their themes. Templates for many of the crafts are in the back matter. There seems to be some confusion about the intended audience. While the introduction and most of the content indicate that the book is geared toward adults working with children, other parts of the text are aimed directly at young readers. Another drawback is the heavy British feel, although it should not detract from the usefulness of this import to adults. However, the same cannot be said for a young audience and there is no glossary for items like "paper cake cases" and "liquid jelly." This would be an adequate purchase for collections needing to refresh their craft sections, but there is really nothing new or innovative here.—
