PreS-K—These small-format books look as if they might be the perfect match for small hands just learning the basic concepts. Unfortunately, they are so busy with too much text, too many pictures, and too many suggestions to "find this and then find that" that children will be more likely overwhelmed than engaged. Most emerging readers need just a little bit at a time. There is a lot of "find the one that doesn't match" and most readers (even adults) will have real trouble discovering the differences. Also, in one book readers are asked to find the pair of gloves but only mittens are pictured. However, the illustrations are appealing, and fans of Richard Scarry and pages filled to exploding with pictures and words might enjoy browsing these titles. Supplemental purchases.—
