Cleo’s Alphabet, Cleo’s Colors, Cleo’s Numbers

PreS–Cleo the ginger cat is back in these board book versions from Barefoot Books. Each book features bright colors and bold, dark lines as it introduces the alphabet, the numbers one through ten, and ten basic colors. The simple, lyrical prose centers each letter, number, or color; and the alphabet book leaves room for interpretation. For example, “C moos when she says hello. D barks as he plays.” At the end, each letter and corresponding picture is repeated and the object is named. The number and color books also include a simple summary at the end. The addition of an audiobook link will have little ones eager to press repeat. World renowned English storyteller X. G. Knight perfectly paces the reading and includes select sound effects that add to the fun.
VERDICT Fans of Lucy Cousins and newcomers alike will reach for these books again and again.
