PreS-K—Detailed watercolor illustrations and a brief rhyming text introduce youngsters to the cozy home in which adorable Mouse is making preparations for Christmas. The human inhabitants are never seen, but this is clearly a residence that any mouse would enjoy. The large, sleeping cat is decribed as his "special friend," and there are plenty of holiday treats on display. The last illustration shows Mouse wearing his paper crown and resting against a Stilton cheese as he makes his own holiday wish: "Merry Christmas, Everyone!" This gentle, secular story is suitable for sharing with young children.—Virginia Walter, UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies
