Gr 9 Up—Foundational chemistry concepts are explored in four interlinking chapters that are grouped into pairs in this well-organized production. The first set of chapters explicates the field's historical considerations, and the second set demonstrates the structural and analytical aspects of chemistry. The program begins with a long view of how contemporary notions of the atom were formed, and how the modern Periodic Table of Elements came into being. Chapters 3 and 4 explain how elements are arranged and how to observe, as well as challenge, the perceptions of how these elements bond to each other. Featuring live-action footage, animated sequences, and a humorous narrative, each chapter builds on the information covered in the previous segment. The supplementary materials include chapter-based reflection questions in short-answer and multiple-choice formats, as well as a PowerPoint presentation. For high school and community college science programs.—
