Bullying

Gr 1-3–This Spanish-language nonfiction picture book provides information on the different types of bullying as well as the importance of seeking help and support from a network of friends and family. Scenarios that may be familiar to kids are presented: fighting over something two people may want, being made fun of, or even making fun of someone while friends look on or clap. Topics such as bravery and self-esteem are also explored, and the value of the network is discussed as readers are encouraged to seek help with loved ones, classmates, and teachers. Tips on what to do if readers are being bullied or are supporting a bully—or even if they are a bully themselves—and how they can change that are included, along with tips on what to be on the lookout for if they suspect someone is being bullied. Bright, bold backgrounds combine with clear Spanish text, which is bold or enlarged to place emphasis or ask readers questions, and colorful illustrations depict young children and students in situations at school and home.
