Bobo's life changes when he is introduced to a new baby. This book is filled with repetition, which gives the narrative a songlike rhythm. The dog's large round eyes communicate feelings of disappointment, determination, and happiness throughout. The graphic-art style illustrations and soft warm palette add to the book's appeal. Shadows and lines are often utilized to illustrate character movement. The faces of Bobo's owners are not shown until the end of the book, which allows readers to focus attention on Bobo. Young readers will be able to relate to the pup when they are introduced to new family members.
VERDICT This sweet, reassuring title illustrates that changes within a family can be positive for all involved, despite possible challenges along the way.
