The different professions the father tries range from famous (Hollywood director and baseball player) to adventurous (explorer and ranger) to out of this worldliterally. North uses simple "if]then" structured rhymes that beg to be read aloud. "If I were a librarian, we could venture anywhere./Wherever we decide to go, a book would take us there." The father, his daughter, and her doll ride a book like a magic carpet. Hall again creates fun-filled, full-page watercolor cartoon illustrations in the same retro style as the first book. In uneven rhyming couplets, a dad assures his daughter of just how much he would do for her: "If I were a carpenter, / I would use my saw and drill / To build two wooden go-karts for racing down the hill." The pictures have a retro patina but some spunk as well; however, nothing distinguishes this latest entry in the which-book-loves-you-more sweepstakes.
