Baby-Toddler–Set in soft pastel cloudlike backgrounds, each page features a cherubic, roly-poly baby doing what babies do best: grabbing toes, sleeping, cuddling, crawling. One or two words per page form simple couplets, e.g., “Wave hello. Count each toe.” Along with the babies are nestled puppies and kittens; a baby grows and then attempts walking with the help of larger hands in the shot. Beautiful, full-page illustrations depict large-eyed children who are Black, white, or Asian, each of whom will certainly draw and hold little onlookers’ attention. Toddlers will reach for this book again and again, and the book invites accompanying actions, such as counting toes, waving hello, and tickling feet.
VERDICT A sweet addition to all baby and toddler shelves, for use in laps or in larger story hour groups.
