PreS-Gr 1–Baby Blue, with a helmet-like dot as a head and a cherubic face, is blue, and lives alone in a beautiful blue world of mountains, trees, and roads for his bike. He is cuddled and nurtured by Night, and is only discomfited when he crashes his bike, which rips a hole in his blue world and lets a yellow light shine through. Climbing through the rip, he finds a world just like his but yellow, and, after a little fear, meets Baby Yellow, who has a whole lot to say. Their friendship leads to Baby Green, and the world continues to take on more color, with more babies. The babies have white faces, and although they look androgynous, are identified by male pronouns. The illustrations are as simple as the message, which is obvious and will appeal to readers looking for easy answers.
VERDICT An additional purchase at best, this one-size-fits-all lesson of conquering fear and getting along with others has a very low impact.
