K-Gr 1—In three to six short, declarative sentences per spread, each of these volumes mentions a wild animal's typical family, range, habitat, home, juvenile development, and diet. The photos of young creatures exert a predictable appeal, but the quality of the reproductions is subpar, varying from barely adequate to blurry and garishly tinted. The indexes and reading lists are perfunctory, though at this elementary level probably superfluous. Routine at best.
Titles in this small-format series offer very basic facts about the habitats, diets, and traits of mammal babies; much of the general information is repeated across volumes. Clear and engaging photographs include some images of newborns, of nursing juveniles, and of the title animals' prey. Each volume includes a small habitat map and a size comparison graphic (human child and adult to adult creature). Reading list. Glos., ind. Review covers these Wild Baby Animals titles: Arctic Fox Pups, Beaver Kits, Lion Cubs, Polar Bear Cubs, Raccoon Cubs, Skunk Kits, Squirrel Kits, and Tiger Cubs.
