PreS-K—The third album from the Puget Sound-based group The Harmonica Pocket is strongly influenced by the addition of a baby to the Apgar Family. The 14 mostly original songs by Keeth Monta Apgar have a softer sound this go around, yet keep intact the group's trademark catchy tunes, tight harmonies, and lyrics of interest to preschoolers. Opening with "I'm Gonna Count" (a tune that teaches counting by 1's up to 6, by 2's up to 12, and by 5's up to 100), the duo celebrates love in the ballad "Monkey Love," teach patience in "Waiting Takes a Long Time," play a game with syllable pronunciation in "Apple Apple," discover body parts in "Little Little Baby," celebrate mothers in the reggae-infused "Happy Mother's Day," and consider the joys of parenting in "Reflections." Apgar successfully arranges the traditional song "Turkey in the Straw" to make it his own. The addition of guest musicians adds a level of fullness to the sound—whether it is an alto sax, bass, trombone, or banjo. Delightful listening and perfect for naptime.—Stephanie Bange, Wright State University, Dayton, OH
